Today’s article focuses on the Bangert Manta Ray Sports Car designed by Noel Bangert (Marshall) and debuted in 1955 in Hollywood, California.

Noel Bangert was an interesting guy. I had a chance to get to know him over several years, and he went on to great acclaim in Hollywood as an Executive Producer and more – later in life. We’ll discuss Noel in detail in future stories. In the mid 1950’s, though, he was all about designing the next great sports car for people across the world to build.
Noel had released his first car called “The Stag” in 1954. This Buyer’s Guide shows his second effort, which originally debuted in the summer of 1955. This second design drew on the initial design of the Stag, but took it several steps further. This second car was inspired by the 1954 Buick showcar “The Wildcat II” which was an open-fendered fiberglass sport car that dazzled folks across the country in Motorama shows and magazine publicity. Noel wanted everyone to be able to drive a car as stylish as a concept car, and he was going to make it happen with his new “Manta Ray” design.
So…enjoy this segment of Car Craft’s 1956 Fiberglass Buyers Guide and be on the lookout for the next Bangert Manta Ray hiding out there. Just 4-5 have been found, and your efforts could make you the next lucky owner.
